Our Mission

Independent Thinking, Intellectual Risk-Taking

The Hudson School provides intellectually inquisitive students with a rigorous and relevant college-preparatory education that inspires independent thinking and intellectual risk-taking.

In small classes led by experienced teachers, students connect ideas across disciplines and consider the social, cultural, scientific, and ethical dimensions of their work. Education here shapes character as well as intellect — preparing students for thoughtful participation in an interconnected world.

Our Foundations

Courage, Compassion, Commitment

Courage

Our students demonstrate the physical, mental, and moral strength to persevere in difficult situations. Responsibility is built into the fabric of daily life — students own their education and constantly step out of their comfort zones.

Compassion

Compassion is at the core of Hudson School life. Teachers and students participate in spirited discussion and vigorous debate, yet kindness is the foundation — from everyday athletic competitions to extraordinary community service projects.

Commitment

A commitment to noble causes, academic endeavors, and personal integrity is central to a Hudson education. We graduate students who have the skills and willingness to commit to working for a more humane, civil, and just world.

Values in Action

Students Took Their Futures Into Their Own Hands

When Hudson students organized a school-wide walkout for gun control reform, they wrote letters to congress, filled voter registration forms, and marched through Hoboken to city hall — demonstrating the courage and commitment at the heart of their education.

It was and is a nurturing environment, where we were not only challenged academically, we were pushed to engage with the community and the world, and immersed in social justice issues. We were taught to “walk the walk” as well as “talk the talk.”
